Greek Mythology: Family Tree
My obsession with Greek mythology has been quiet but steady, sparked initially by sailing the virtual Aegean in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and fully cemented after reading Stephen Fry’s brilliant Mythos and Heroes books. These stories have always hit me the same way great fantasy fiction does—they are wild, exciting, and beautifully chaotic. But what I love most is how surprisingly human the gods and heroes are; despite their reality-bending powers, they are characterised by the same messy mistakes, sibling rivalries, and volatile passions that define us. It was this vibrant humanity that made me want to act as an impromptu (and probably slightly annoying!) tour guide when I visited Greece in 2022, answering every question my travel companions had until they were practically pleading with me to stop.
To make sense of the overwhelming maze of divine lineages, I decided to build my own simplified family tree. The sheer depth of the classical pantheon can easily make your head spin, so I chose to prune away the minor figures and focus strictly on the characters behind the most prominent, enduring stories. This layout is designed to let you see the larger picture at a glance, tracing the cosmic lineage from the primordial void of Chaos down to the tragic heroes of the Trojan War, while linking each generation directly to the legendary tales they left behind.
While this tree was assisted by targeted AI research to verify the trickiest family connections, I put in the manual work to design, structure, and refine the map myself. I wanted to steer far away from mindless, fully automated AI tasks and instead create a deliberate, curated resource that carries a genuine human pulse.
You can explore the interactive lineages and dive into the stories yourself here: My Greek Mythology Family Tree. Whilst the embed below gives a preview, the true website feel is much more clean.
